Chile’s vineyards are found along an 800-mile stretch of land from Atacama Region to the Bio-Bio Region in the south. Chile’s diverse climatic conditions are particularly suitable for high quality grape growing.

The vineyard in Santa Carolina vineyard is developed by the most authentic French Bordeaux vines. The devastation of the aphids in the 19th century almost destroyed all the vineyards of Bordeaux, France. The visionary Louis Pirella brought this precious vines to Chile before the disaster. Therefore, the vineyard which is still growing has the Millennium wine history of the most authentic vines descending from the famous French vineyards.

Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded Viña Errázuriz in 1870. With his great vision for the future and his innovative, pioneering spirit, he planted the first French grape varieties in the Aconcagua Valley. His initiative and creativity were handed down to future generations and, in just over a century, his descendants consolidated the winery and positioned their wines among the world’s most noteworthy. It is currently one of the best examples of successful winemaking in Chile.

Located just 90 kilometres north of Santiago, Chile’s capital, the traditional Aconcagua Valley is the last of the country’s transversal valleys. Its basin is shaped by the Aconcagua River, which flows from the Andes Mountain Range into the Pacific Ocean. Its riverbanks are formed by alluvial and colluvial terraces, ideal for growing the finest grape varieties.

The valley’s great telluric beauty and its mild Mediterranean climate, which features an extended dry season and rains concentrated mainly in winter, were the facts that most probably attracted Don Maximiano Errazuriz’s attention, who 145 years ago, with a great vision, established his winery there. And he was not mistaken: the easy access to water for irrigation and the volcanic and colluvial origin of its soils, make Aconcagua a real viticultural paradise. From the mountains to the coast, this has been the origin of many of the most renowned Chilean wines.

Loma Larga 长丘酒庄

Loma Larga Vineyards is a Family winery located in Casablanca Valley, Chile.Since the beginning, the company is focused on elaborating high quality wines with grapes 100% from Casablanca Valley, which is noted and valued for its cold climate. With a strong concept of terroir, Loma Larga Vineyards is the pionner in Chile for production of red wines from cool climate.

The red grapes, which unusually for Casablanca make up half the vineyard area, are Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Merlot and a little bit of Cabernet Sauvignon. Loma Larga was the first estate in the valley to plant Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Malbec. The whites are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer.

The estate was purchased in 1994 but five years’ research preceded the first plantings in 1999. Soil analysis was undertaken across the property, and along with temperature (which varies quite a bit from block to block), this was used to decide what was planted where. The first wines made were in 2004 (12 000 bottles) which increased to 100 000 bottles in 2006. The aim is to increase production to 300 000 bottles. 95% of sales are export (Justerini & Brooks are the UK agents).

The Diaz family are green-minded, and want to preserve the fauna and flora on their estate: they’ve achieved ‘Lotus’ certification for good environmental practice.
